Dynata Survey Authoring: Service Disruption Update
Incident Report for Dynata Solutions
Resolved
Given the Dynata Survey Authoring platform's performance over the weekend and issues observed and diagnosed in this time period, we consider this status page incident resolved. As mentioned earlier, based on what we have observed the following features should be functional:

SIGNIFICANT FEATURES THAT SHOULD NOW BE FULLY FUNCTIONAL:
1. Validate Data functionality
2. Cloning entire surveys
3. Cloning items within surveys (e.g. pages, questions, logic blocks, etc.)
4. Email Campaigns
5. User and Password Management
6. Theme Management
7. Respondent File Generation
8. Data Export
9. Respondent Media Upload and Download

We will be working diligently to tune and optimize performance going forward, but at this point we can generally consider the migration and mitigation efforts concluded.

Monitoring
At this point, we have resolved the significant issues that had arisen following the Cmix Maintenance period on August 27th. Moving forward, we will be monitoring functionality on an ongoing basis, and working to systematically tune and optimize the Dynata Survey Authoring solution's performance.

SIGNIFICANT FEATURES THAT SHOULD NOW BE FULLY FUNCTIONAL:
1. Validate Data functionality
2. Cloning entire surveys
3. Cloning items within surveys (e.g. pages, questions, logic blocks, etc.)
4. Email Campaigns
5. User and Password Management
6. Theme Management
7. Respondent File Generation
8. Data Export
9. Respondent Media Upload and Download

The teams will continue to monitor the platform, leaving it in "Monitoring" status through end of day Monday (the US Labor Day holiday). Should you encounter other issues, please email CustomerSuccess@dynata.com to let the team know, but please bear with us with response times are slightly longer due to the holiday weekend.

Update
Progress has been made on most outstanding known issues.

SIGNIFICANT ISSUES THAT REMAIN IN PROGRESS:
- Within a survey, cloning specific items (e.g. pages, questions, logic blocks, etc.) is still experiencing problems. The team is working to resolve the issues and test / evaluate.
- When generating a Respondent File, an error message is displayed.

ISSUES THAT SHOULD NOW BE RESOLVED:
- The sending of email campaigns should again be functional. Please note, email campaigns that had been "stuck" as sending should be canceled and re-sent.
- Validate Data is now reporting correct counts across all question types.
- Cloning entire surveys should be fully functional at this point, though performance may be slower than desired. In particular:
* JavaScript and custom CSS should all be cloning successfully.
* Question Texts and Response Lists should all be cloning successfully.
* Multi-lingual projects with localizations should be cloning successfully.
* Concept logic blocks within concept tests should be cloning successfully.
- Users can now be deleted by people with appropriate administrative privileges.
- Themes should again be modifiable.
- Exporting data should no longer have either null/empty values or extraneous zeroes in either ASCII or Excel format.
- "Invalid Formula Semantics" errors while testing surveys should no longer appear
- Users now have the ability to download data in the Export File portion of the system
- "Lookup Files" were not able to be added, modified and/or deleted. This has been resolved.
- Email Campaigns Sample Files should now upload.
- Variable/Question names no longer appear with 8 digit precision (decimal places)
- Creation of new users and the resetting of passwords should now be functioning correctly
- Cloning surveys that feature logic loops no longer create errors in logic loop construction in newly-created (cloned) surveys.
- Cloning surveys that include grid questions is now stable.
- Deletion of entire pages containing logic blocks is now functional (no longer generates a Database Error message).
- When re-ordering and re-arranging logic blocks and/or pages containing logic blocks, changes should be persisted consistently.
- The ability to download the list of respondents that have unsubscribed from email campaigns should be functional.

PERFORMANCE OPTIMIZATION
Following this significant migration, we are aware of changes in Cmix's performance profile, particularly as relates to the cloning of surveys. The team is working to optimize performance, however this will be an ongoing effort with incremental improvements to be expected over the coming days and weeks. Current performance should not have an impact on respondents completing surveys or on the functionality of the platform itself - merely that certain operations in the survey authoring tool may take a different amount of time (sometimes less, sometimes more) than they had before the most recent maintenance.

We are also seeing reports of various other issues - some intermittent, and some which may be tied to the issues outlined above. The team is investigating these issues and will be updating this status incident as issues are further diagnosed. Should you encounter other issues, please email CustomerSuccess@dynata.com to let the team know.

Progress has been made on most outstanding known issues.

SIGNIFICANT ISSUES THAT REMAIN IN PROGRESS:
- The sending of email campaigns is experiencing intermittent problems.
- Validate Data is reporting counts at 0 for certain question types.

SIGNIFICANT ISSUES THAT ARE BEING TESTED / EVALUATED:
- Within a survey, cloning specific items (e.g. pages, questions, logic blocks, etc.) should be functional at this point, however we are testing and analyzing this to confirm.

ISSUES THAT SHOULD NOW BE RESOLVED:
- Cloning entire surveys should be fully functional at this point, given the caveat above. In particular:
* JavaScript and custom CSS should all be cloning successfully.
* Question Texts and Response Lists should all be cloning successfully.
* Multi-lingual projects with localizations should be cloning successfully.
* Concept logic blocks within concept tests should be cloning successfully.

Update
The team has made progress on a number of issues which came to light.

The following issues have been resolved:
- "Invalid Formula Semantics" errors while testing surveys.
- Users now have the ability to download data in the Export File portion of the system
- "Lookup Files" were not able to be added, modified and/or deleted. This has been resolved
- Email Campaigns Sample Files would not upload.
- Variable/Question names appeared with 8 digit precision (decimal places)
- Data exported to ASCII format may include extra 0s as either prefixes or in decimal positions even the data should be represented in integer form. This issue has now been detected and fixed.

The following items are still outstanding and the team is actively working to address them:
- Currently cannot clone a survey
- Email Campaigns Unsubscribe list is also unavailable
- Cannot currently modify themes
- Certain answer values are incorrectly exporting as empty/Null values rather instead of 0 values.

As always, we appreciate your patience.

Identified
Our teams have analyzed the ongoing service disruption affecting the Dynata Survey Authoring tool (Cmix). We have confirmed that while the disruption does affect the survey authoring tool itself, it does not impact data collection for launched projects.

Our team is working to resolve the issue as we speak, and we will provide an update shortly.

The specific portions of the system experiencing issues are:
- Downloading Data via Export Files
- Inability to clone surveys

This incident affected: Survey Authoring (Cmix) (Survey Authoring & Management).
